Yorkie Training
Sunday, February 12th, 2012It’s an important thing for your sanity and all the other people involved that as adorible as your Yorkie is, that you master Yorkie training to make dog ownership seamless. At times, these little cuties can be a bit on the naughty side when it comes to their behaviors. What is meant here is that they are not completely out of control or that they need a personality make over; not, that’s not what I am saying. Still, it does mean that Yorkie obedience training is very important to consider if you want a well behaved dog and that training to be somewhat specialized training at that.
The Uniqueness of Yorkies
You should know up front that Yorkies aren’t the easiest breed to train. Stubbornness and independence are the traits that run strong in Yorkies and that is a challenge. These little dogs have their own minds and will pursue whatever it is they want with persistent will.
Deceiving is the Yorkies cute looks as they can be a handful if not properly trained. You really have to keep in mind that they are a dog and must be trained accordingly—don’t be fooled by their adorableness. null Don’t let the Yorkie become accustomed about getting rewards because it is cute and little. In the training relationship, you will lose the power if you start to do that.
What is at risk here is the dog itself and it may actually hurt the Yorkie if Yorkie training is not used. They can’t help their strong will and feisty personality, which are characteristics that could potentially put these little dogs in jeopardy. Preventing problems should be your goal by properly training the Yorkie.
Yorkie Training Basics
There are some basic elements that need to be looked at here which are commands. The type of commands I am talking about are the following: “sit,” “stay,” and “down.”
A lot of the Yorkies out there have the problem of jumping and climbing on things and have problems with this. They should be carried up and down stairs and not allowed to jump on your furniture. Make sure that you define these boundries as soon as you can.
It’s pretty darn discouraging with Yorkie training if you don’t know what to do. It will take time and dedication, but the rewards will pay off tenfold. You can have an amazing (and cute) dog in your Yorkie when you take the time to learn how to properly train them, and then actually do it.
